We Butter the Bread with Butter (WBTBWB) emerged from the depths of the German underground metal scene in 2005. The band, initially known as "Butterbrot", began as a hobby for friends Marcel Neumann (vocals), Maximilian Saux (guitar), and Tobias Wüstenberg (drums). Their unique blend of deathcore and metalcore, coupled with their offbeat and humorous lyrics, quickly gained a cult following.
Debut Album and Breakthrough:
In 2008, WBTBWB released their debut album, "Das Monster mit den tausend Köpfen". The album showcased their raw and aggressive sound, as well as their penchant for tongue-in-cheek lyrics about everyday life, such as "Ich hab keinen Bock auf Arbeit" (I don't feel like working) and "Tag der Rache" (Day of revenge). The album was a commercial success, propelling the band into the mainstream.
Controversy and Challenges:
WBTBWB's rise to fame was not without its controversies. Their lyrics, which often parodied German pop culture and dealt with sensitive topics, drew criticism from some who accused them of being offensive and insensitive. The band also faced legal challenges over the use of copyrighted material in some of their songs.
Despite the controversies, WBTBWB remained unapologetic about their unique approach. They continued to push the boundaries of metalcore with their subsequent albums, including "Butterbrot" (2010), "Projekt Herz" (2015), and "Wieder" (2018).
