Montgomery: Navigating the Labyrinth of Sound and Controversy

Emerging from the enigmatic depths of São Paulo, Brazil, Montgomery has carved a unique path in the annals of heavy metal music. Their ethereal melodies, thunderous riffs, and introspective lyrics have enthralled and provoked listeners alike.

The Birth of a Musical Vision

In the early 2000s, three young musicians - vocalist and guitarist Edu Falaschi, bassist Felipe Andreoli, and drummer Aquiles Priester - united by a shared love for progressive metal. They christened their band Montgomery, paying homage to the legendary American jazz musician Wes Montgomery.

As Brumas de Avalon: A Controversial Anthem

Montgomery's breakout single, "As Brumas de Avalon," released in 2003, became an instant sensation. Inspired by the fantasy novel of the same name, the song's haunting melodies and cryptic lyrics evoked a mystical and alluring atmosphere. However, it also drew criticism from conservative groups, who alleged it promoted Satanism due to its references to the Arthurian legend.

Musical Evolution and Challenges

Undeterred by the controversy, Montgomery continued to evolve their sound. Their debut album, "Astronauts," showcased their technical prowess and a blend of progressive metal with elements of power metal and medieval folk. Subsequent albums, such as "The Hunting" and "The Future of Now," further refined their musical style, incorporating exotic instrumentation and complex song structures.

Lineup Changes and Personal Struggles

Like many bands, Montgomery faced its share of lineup changes over the years. After the departure of Falaschi in 2012, vocalist Fabio Lione (of Rhapsody of Fire fame) joined the band. Andreoli also left in 2017, replaced by bassist Leo Mancini. Despite these changes, Montgomery's unwavering commitment to their musical vision remained intact.
