Katie Buxton Katie Buxton - People Only Listen When It Looks Good

Check my phone, all I see are made up faces, perfect bodies
And a few thousand likes on a picture of somebody
Dressed up in designer
‘Cause when you look good, people buy your message

Forget your truth, forget your charities
We're busy worshipping celebrities
And spending all our time and cash
Trying to keep up with Kardashians
And listening to music about girls and getting wasted

So why are the people being heard
Always the people with the emptiest words
And nothing, nothing to say?
‘Cause there is wisdom that can change the world
And truth that takes a lifetime to learn
In the voices, voices that aren't being heard
‘Cause people only listen when it looks good

Yeah, these songs I write aren't hits
But they sure as hell are honest
And I'm struggling to have
My words listened to or noticed
‘Cause I won't sell my soul
And I don't wanna take my clothes off

And if Jesus did come back
I think He'd probably have to have
A pretty face, a pretty car
A pretty Instagram at that
Just to get some damn attention
To get everyone to listen

So why are the people being heard
Always the people with the emptiest words
And nothing, nothing to say?
‘Cause there is wisdom that can change the world
And truth that takes a lifetime to learn
In the voices, voices that aren't being heard
‘Cause people only listen when it looks good
