Confide: A Journey Through Discord and Harmony
Confide, the melodic hardcore band from Sacramento, California, emerged in 2004, leaving an indelible mark on the music scene. Their journey, however, was not without its challenges and triumphs.
Musical Origins and Early Success
Confide was founded by vocalist Ross Kenyon, guitarists Joel Piper and Jeff Ptak, bassist Kyle Rosa, and drummer Arin Ilejay. Their debut album, "Define the Great Line," released in 2006, showcased their aggressive yet melodic sound. The album's lead single, "Such Great Heights," a cover of the Postal Service song, became a breakout hit, propelling the band to mainstream success.
Controversy and Lineup Changes
Despite their initial triumph, Confide faced controversy surrounding Kenyon's lyrical content, which critics accused of being misogynistic and homophobic. This led to a split from their record label and a temporary hiatus in 2009.
After a lineup change that saw the departure of Ptak and Rosa, Confide returned in 2010 with a revised roster, including guitarist Chris Lewis and bassist Nate Jozwiak. Their subsequent album, "Recover," showcased a more polished and accessible sound, but failed to match the impact of their debut.
Hiatus and Reunions
Confide disbanded in 2013, with members pursuing other projects. However, they reunited in 2017 with a lineup featuring Kenyon, Piper, Jozwiak, and new drummer Aaron Stechauner. Their 2018 EP, "The Distance," marked a return to their heavier roots.
